Integrative Research Projects (IRPs) Collaborative research within the PetaMedia NoE is organized into Integrative Research Projects (IRPs). These projects involve multiple PetaMedia partners and pursue two objectives: first, to integrate the expertise, both scientific and technological of the partners and second, to provide products that will build towards successful field trials. IRPs accomplish their goals in a top down manner — they are motivated and monitored by the central strategic planning of the PetaMedia network. The PetaMedia IRPs are the basis for the integrative research activities (including people and technologies). The first generation of IRPs was launched at the first Yearly Technology Integration Meeting (TIM) in Berlin in October 2008. SIGs use their areas of expertise to identify the need for a unit of integrative research to serve as a module that builds towards the field trials. Diagram below gives an overview of the first generation of IRPs in PetaMedia and depicts the relationship between the IRPs and the SIGs that gave rise to them. It should be noted that IRPs are informed by Exploratory Research Projects (ERPs), smaller, bottom up research efforts located at individual sites.
There are currently five Integrative Research Projects: |
